Church Recorders promote recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage in places of worship by recording the contents of churches of all religions. Participating churches are presented with an illustrated book detailing each item and its history. Copies are also sent to national institutions including the V&A in London.

Help your local Church understand and catalogue its furnishings and discover the fascinating history of these objects by joining an Arts Society Church Recording Group. An interest in or knowledge of religion is not necessary for church recording but an enquiring mind is!

Would you like us to record your church or place of worship?
If you are interested in inviting enthusiastic, disciplined and committed volunteers to make a detailed inventory of your church or place of worship, please contact the local Church Recorders Area Representative by using the Contact Us page. There is no charge for church recording by The Arts Society members or for the production of church records. Societies can also produce Discovery Trails to interest 8-12 year-olds in buildings of interest - see the Trails page.
