Essex Area Day of Celebration in Braintree
Saturday 22 September 2018

This was an interesting, attractive and informative day celebrating 50 years of The Arts Society with all our Societies' efforts in varied activities, culminating in a fascinating and enjoyable lecture and roadshow by Andy McConnell of The Antiques Roadshow on '5000 Years of Glass', which was very well attended.

After his lecture Andy spoke about the audience’s glass which included a lovely ‘rummer’ glass, 1780, an unusual ‘cruciform’ decanter, 1730, and a beautiful blue bird, which was a ‘Pulcino’, designed c1963, by Alesandro Pianon, made by Vistosi in Murano,Venice and was of considerable interest.

The event was staged in Braintree as part of the Art Society’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and included displays by Essex Area Societies at the Braintree Museum, museum tours and visits to the Warner Textile Archive and stores earlier in the day.
